When can we start?
August 1st! Wait, isn't that a weekend? Yes, but we are outside the box, remember! Some teachers may be able to teach weekend sessions if it works for you too.

Are sessions scheduled on a regular basis?
No. We don't put you on a set schedule (say every Tuesday at 10) because we know things come up. You will also have a different teacher each week with her own schedule. The teacher will work with you to try to find a meet that works for all. You might want to do 3 days a week for two weeks or 2 days a week for three weeks.

Can we mix students from different grade levels?
Yes, but keep in mind, it's best to keep the same range together K/1, 2/3, 3/4, 4/5 so that your child will benefit from content that best matches his or her developmental level. Teachers can differentiate when they conference with children at different age or ability levels.

Can we schedule once a week?
Some weeks sure! But since there are only 4 weeks in August, some weeks will have 2 meets. Think of it as having 31 days to schedule in 6 meets.

What if my child misses a session?
No worries. If your child misses a session, online classes will be offered to make up the missed content.

Will this be offered in the fall?
We hope so! Most of our awesome instructors are currently teaching full-time so we know we could do sessions after the regular school day. We are on the hunt for fantastic retired teachers and we will keep you posted!

How it Works:
- You decide to host a Backyard Literacy Group (Oh, Did we tell your child goes for 50% off?)
- Find 4 - 6 of your child's friends who are game
- Contact Colleen at ireadallday@gmail.com for your group code
- Parents register at Ireadallday.com
- Gather a bag of personal supplies (we'll send you the list)
- Certified teachers contact you to schedule 6 flexible meets
- The learning begins!
What Gets Taught:
- Each Backyard Literacy group consists of 6 sessions. Why 6? To ensure that we cover all the bases. Your child will receive a balanced sampling of lessons from the key areas in reading or writing, depending on the focus you choose for your group
- Reading: decoding, fiction comprehension, nonfiction comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, writing about reading
- Writing: collecting ideas, focus, organization and structure, elaboration, word choice and spelling/punctuation
- Content is differentiated to engage learners at different grade levels
