My name is Gaby Gibson, and I believe there's magic in education. Students, at all grade levels, enter with a certain set of skills and exit with so much more. Along the way, the teacher has the privilege of supporting, encouraging, and engaging all students in ways that promote individual growth and development.
In my experience as an educator, I have had young students enter my classroom knowing only the alphabet and basic addition. Through the course of a school year these students become equipped with the skills and confidence to read and write words, sentences, and even texts such as chapter books. They also build on their mathematical skills to add and subtract multiple digit numbers while understanding number sense and uncovering the meaning and importance of different strategies. This, I believe, is magic, and I am so fortunate to work in a profession in which I witness it on a daily basis. I have worked as a special educator for the past five years as a co teacher, resource teacher, and self contained teacher. I have been trained in and implemented many curricula and programs such as Envision Math, GO Math, Fundations, Project Read, Being a Writer, Reading Street, Project Based Learning, Developmental Reading Assessments, i-Ready, Google Classroom, and IEP Direct. I have also created and collected various activities and resources to support learning that align with these programs and standards across multiple grade levels.
I am available Monday-Friday after 1 pm to instruct virtually and then outdoors in the spring/summer. I am currently teaching virtual kindergarten and have developed a large toolbox of virtual teaching resources and strategies to ensure that students remain engaged and enjoy themselves while learning through this media.
Elementary teachers lay the foundation of skills that students utilize for the rest of their educational careers and lives. I am grateful to be a part of such an impactful profession. I welcome the opportunity to work with students through I Read All Day!
